New York Meets Scotland

Nothing tastes better than a freshly baked New York City bagel and some sliced smoked salmon. You too can enjoy a piece of the Big Apple no matter where you live. This recipe is my own twist on the meal, but feel free to make your own combination. Serve with a quality cup of java.

INGREDIENTS

  • 2-4 slices Nova lox, cut into thin strips (it’s best to buy fresh from the deli counter)
  • 2 fresh bagels
  • 2-3 tablespoons whipped cream cheese
  • Red onion, thinly sliced
  • Cucumber, thinly sliced
  • Tomato, sliced

DIRECTIONS

  1. Cut bagels in half and lightly toast. Fresh, warm bagels do not require toasting.
  2. Smear (NYC term for spread) cream cheese on both sides of your bagels.
  3. Top with remaining ingredients.
  4. Cut in half and serve.

TIP

Lox refers to salmon which has been cured in a salty brine. Be sure to purchase Nova lox. It has a milder taste because it is lightly smoked and brown sugar is added to the brine.
